Alpine Nebbiolo from High Elevation- BastianCuntrari Rosso di Valtellina

The estate is located in the splendid Alpine landscape of Valtellina, in an area of ​​Lombardy that has always been suited to viticulture, since ancient times, thanks to the presence of very particular microclimatic conditions, which create an ideal habitat for the vine. Despite its high latitude and mountainous location, Valtellina has the particularity of developing along the east-west axis, in a completely anomalous way compared to other Alpine valleys, which descend from the peaks towards the plain with a prevalent orientation that goes from north to south. This particular orographic conformation allows the northern side to be magnificently exposed to the sun throughout the day, ensuring full and perfect ripening of the grapes. The cool, typically Alpine climate is thus tempered by the generous insolation and the mild breezes that rise from Lake Como.

The vineyards are divided into many parcels, all located within the territory of the Valtellina Superiore denomination, in particular in the sub-zones Sassella, Grumello and Inferno. The agronomic management of the estate is inspired by the principles of sustainability, with mechanical grass cutting and without the use of herbicides. Fertilization is carried out using only organic fertilizers and treatments are reduced to the bare minimum, favoring products permitted by the organic farming regulations. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are transported to the opposite side of the valley, where the winery is located, for vinification.
